Edge security in smart inverters: Physical invariants based approach

نویسندگان

چکیده

The endeavour towards making power distribution systems (PDSs) smarter has made the interdependence on communication network indispensable. Further, prospective high penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources in form distributed resources (DERs) resulted necessity for smart controllers such DERs. Inverters are employed purpose DC to AC conversion where present standards require these inverters be smart. In general, resource management (DERMS) calculate and send set points/operating points using protocols as profile (SEP) 2.0. Given nature sites at which DERs installed i.e., home area networks with a pool IoT(Internet-of-Things) devices, opportunity malicious actor sabotage operation is typically higher than that transmission system. National Electric Sector Cyber-security Organization Resource (NESCOR) described several failure scenarios impact analyses case cyber attacks One scenario concerns real/reactive control commands. this paper, it demonstrated physical invariant based security edge i.e. deployed DER inverters, an effective approach minimize targeting reactive inverters. proposed defense generic can also extended real-power control. validated co-simulation platform (OpenDSS MATLAB/SIMULINK).

A Hierarchical, Agent-based Approach to Security in Smart Offices

As electronic devices become more and more pervasively integrated in our daily routine, security concerns start to become evident. In the last years, there has been an increasing interest on the topic of security in smart environments. One of the most challenging environments regarding security are smart offices due to the high number of potential users, devices and spaces, and the diversity of...

Voltage Security in AC Microgrids: A Power Flow-Based Approach Considering Droop-Controlled Inverters

This paper deals with the problem of voltage security in microgrids. In general, voltage security is an issue for power systems, where the lack of reactive power is a concern. For microgrids a complexity is imposed, since frequency and voltage level deviations may take place by the operation of droop-controlled inverters. This paper incorporates the load margin calculation into a microgrid stru...

New Physical Attacks and Security of Smart-card

Power analysis is a successful cryptonalytic technique which extracts secret information from smart-cards by analysing the power consumed during the execution of their internal programs. These attacks are particularly dangerous in financial applications in which users insert their smart-cards into teller machines which are owned and operated by potentially dishonest entities. In this paper we d...
